How coverage works here
Worksheet · moraph.org/commons/sessions/reach/how-coverage-works-here
Use these pages during the session and keep them. Nobody has to share their answers, and the situations in exercise 2 are made up.
1 The words
Write each word in your own words: premium, deductible or excess, co-payment, out-of-pocket cost.
2 What would this cost?
For each made-up situation, use the handout to say whether it is usually covered where you live, who might pay part of it, and what you would ask first. Situation A: a visit to a family doctor. Situation B: a prescription to collect from a pharmacy. Situation C: a planned scan at a hospital.
| Situation | Usually covered? | Who might pay part? | What I would ask first |
|---|---|---|---|
3 Before your next appointment
Tick the questions you want to remember to ask.
- Is this covered, and is anything not?
- Do I need a referral first?
- Is this provider in my plan or the public system?
- Roughly what will I pay?
- Does anything need approval first?
- Who can I call if I get a bill I don’t understand?
