Program 02 · Reach

Help finding, understanding and paying for care.

Moraph builds the referral, intake, prior authorization and records systems health organizations run on. Reach takes what our healthcare people know about that machinery and uses it to help people through it.

What you get

The care people are entitled to, within reach.

Plain-language sessions on coverage, finding low-cost care, medical bills, health records and patient portals, and help for clinics to cut the paperwork between patients and appointments.

Sessions for the people you serve

Moraph people from healthcare, and vetted volunteers with healthcare experience, teach at libraries, community centers, clinics and newcomer services: how coverage works where you live, where to find low-cost care, and how to read a bill.

Digital health skills

Hands-on help with patient portals, video appointments and asking for a copy of your own health records, including for people new to smartphones.

Fewer steps for clinics

For free clinics and community health centers: help simplifying intake and referral paperwork and writing patient forms in plain language, through Pro Bono and Access.

No medical advice, no selling

Sessions explain how the system works. They never give medical advice, recommend an insurer or a plan, or collect anyone’s health information.

A good fit

  • You serve people who struggle to find, understand or pay for care
  • You can host sessions in person or online
  • For clinics: a specific step that keeps patients waiting

Not part of this program

  • Medical advice, diagnosis or individual casework
  • Enrolling people in, or recommending, a particular insurer or plan

Planned modules

Six modules. Choose the ones that fit.

Each module is a session of about an hour, written with the first hosts and prepared for the country it is taught in. We suggest three to six as a series. Part of access to healthcare.

  1. How coverage works here

Public programs, insurance and what is free at the point of care, explained for the country you are in.

  2. Finding low-cost care

Community health centers, free clinics, sliding-scale fees, and what to ask before an appointment.

  3. Reading a medical bill

What the lines and codes mean, asking for an itemized bill, questioning errors and asking about payment help.

  4. Your health records

Asking to see and copy your records, what the law where you live allows, and keeping them safe.

  5. Portals and video appointments

Setting up a patient portal, joining a video appointment, and avoiding health-related scams.

  6. Medicines and costs

Generic medicines, asking what a prescription will cost, and assistance programs where they exist.

Teach Reach. Moraph people teach these sessions, and so do vetted volunteers from outside Moraph with the right experience, after a conversation, checks and training on the rules.

Teach Reach: the Reach instructor role

Host Reach sessions.

One short form about your organization and the people you serve. A person from the Moraph for Good team reads every application and replies, whether or not we can help.
