In Mexico
- Who must file. The Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT), the federal tax agency, takes individuals’ annual returns (Declaración Anual) from 1 to 30 April on its portal. For the 2025 tax year, employees had to file if, for example, their salary totaled over 400,000 pesos, they left their only employer before 31 December, they had two or more employers at once, or they had other income.
- Filing and refunds. You file with your Contraseña (SAT password) or e.firma (electronic signature). If you file on time and are owed a refund (saldo a favor), you can choose an automatic refund by giving your 18-digit CLABE bank account number.
- Help from the SAT. For help with the annual return, the SAT lists its MarcaSAT phone line, 55 627 22 728, a chat at chat.sat.gob.mx and appointments at its offices through citas.sat.gob.mx.
- Fake SAT emails. The SAT says it does not send software, ask you to download files, ask for passwords or personal information, or send links by email. Its only official sites are sat.gob.mx and gob.mx/sat, and it has a search tool for known fake email addresses.
- Finding federal programs. The federal government’s Programas para el Bienestar portal lists its social programs, their requirements and which are open for registration. Most register people in person at government offices; a few register online.
