Online health services can save a trip, as long as they are set up safely and before you need them. This sheet sums up the session, with details for where you live in the box below.

Setting up a portal

  • Get the sign-up link from your provider, not from a search or a message.
  • Use a strong password you use nowhere else and turn on two-step sign-in.
  • Ask about family or carer access instead of sharing your login.
  • Sign out fully on shared or public computers.

Using it

  • Results can appear before a clinician has discussed them; call the clinic if one worries you.
  • Portal messages are not for emergencies.
  • If you can’t find something, ask the clinic’s front desk or help line.

Video appointments

  • Test the link, camera and sound before the day.
  • Find a private place and charge your device.
  • Have your questions and medicines list ready.
  • Ask for an interpreter, captions or a phone call if you need one.

Avoiding scams

  • Be wary of urgency, threats, free offers and payment by gift card.
  • Never share passwords, sign-in codes or bank details.
  • Hang up and call back on a number you already have.

In Argentina

  • Mi Argentina. Mi Argentina is the government’s app. To get its personalized services you validate your identity in the app, with selfies taken by your phone’s camera. If that doesn’t work, you can validate in person at a Punto Digital.
  • Your prescriptions in the app. Medicines have been prescribed by receta electrónica (electronic prescription) since January 2025. In the Mi Argentina app you can add the Receta Electrónica service, under Salud, to see prescriptions from the previous 60 days. Only the person the prescription is for can see it.
  • Video appointments. Under Ley 27.553, electronic and digital prescriptions can be used on teleasistencia (telehealth) platforms throughout the country, and pharmacies must dispense medicines prescribed on them.
  • Avoiding scams. The government advises never answering emails that ask for personal data and not clicking their links, using two-factor authentication where you can, and checking the authentication logo when a public body contacts you on WhatsApp.
  • Medicines online. ANMAT (the national medicines regulator) advises against buying medicines online or from unknown sources. Its rules don’t allow the internet to be used to sell over-the-counter medicines directly. ANMAT Responde, 0800-333-1234, takes reports of suspect medicines.
