Warm-ups: a word match for each program.

One printable sheet per program for the first few minutes, while people arrive: match a few words from the sessions to their meanings. No scores, and nobody has to answer aloud.

How it works

Each sheet is one printed page: the words on the left, their meanings in a different order on the right. People write a letter next to each word or draw a line. The host’s notes and the answer key print on a second page, so you can keep them. There is a large-print option on each sheet’s page.

It is meant as a calm start, not a test. Nobody is scored, nobody has to answer aloud, and nobody hands the sheet in. With people who would rather not read much, read a word and a couple of meanings aloud and let them choose.

Where the words come from

The words are the ones the program’s session kits use most, from Words you’ll hear. Words that belong to one country are left out, so a sheet works anywhere. Each meaning is taken from there word for word, shortened only to its first sentence, and every word on a sheet links to its full meaning and official source.

Running a session? The teaching guide covers the rest of the first few minutes.
